Airplanes with "fake windows" - What will be the pros and cons?

Share:
How would our trips be if the airplanes had no windows? Thought seems like a nightmare claustrophobic, but it may not be. Nevertheless, airplanes without windows are coming. And experience may not sound ideal, but the lack of windows could make the aircraft lighter and thus cheaper to fly.

Although designers believe it will be an invitation to convince passengers, Emirates has presented a first-class cabin on the Boeing 777-300ER, which has only virtual windows made up of digital screens. The windows display the landscape captured by the cameras located on the outside of the aircraft. As stated by Emirates president Tim Clark at the BBC, the airline's goal is to place false windows on all planes in the near future.

Clark says that removing the windows could make planes about 50% lighter. And lighter airplanes mean less fuel and lower costs. He also says that the alternative suggested by the company offers better image quality even from natural sight.

Images of first-class cabins with virtual windows make them look completely natural, but a malfunction could be a problem. Disorientation that would cause a window break, claustrophobia - and the sense of non-control - is a real challenge for many passengers. Do not really see the outside world may not be a pleasant feeling. Emirates designers should gain the confidence of passengers if they expect airplanes without windows to become a universal reality. This means that a reliable and high-resolution system must be created to make passengers forget to look at a screen. An aerospace expert also told the BBC that it is important for the crew to be able to see out in case of an emergency.

Nevertheless, it appears that airplanes without windows are ready to become reality and if they are implemented it is estimated that flight costs will change a lot.
