The No. 1 item each CEO must have. And maybe it's not what you think
Not all can become big CEO s. It's a tough job, and you have to have enough features to do it well. Yes, you have to be smart, be a good leader and a team player. You must be mature, responsible and efficient. You probably know that. But there is another thing, which is probably the No. 1 element to have a CEO, as American inc.com explains. It is the great resistance to pain.
Creating a business is like having a child. You work a lot of hours a day with this. And if something goes wrong, it's enough to spoil your psychology. It is something that can happen. What matters, however, is how you deal with the unpleasant situations and failures that arise.
Many can go wrong while you are a businessman. Lose big revenue, lose valuable employees, need to work many hours within a week, legal conflicts, and much more.
The big difficulties must push you forward, not to find yourself ... in a bar to drink, to forget your pain. About 10 years ago, Elon Musk made a breath of failure with SpaceX. Then we saw one failed rocket launch behind the other. Finally, he risked, insisted and the rest is history. Do not forget Steve Jobs who was fired by Apple in the mid-80s. He was dismissed by the company he had founded. But that did not stop him. It continued to evolve, and a few years later it returned to Apple to lead it to the top.
So the question is simple: Can you afford the big pain? If not, then it is best to leave the CEO position for someone else. If so, then do what you know very well, and get to the top.
