While brain fog in and of itself isn’t necessarily a deleterious thing, it can certainly put a damper on your motivation, creativity, productivity, and overall excitement about seizing the day. However, you needn’t fret. Throughout this article we will discuss the five main techniques, practices, and changes that you can implement in your life to combat brain fog, and achieve a heightened sense of mental clarity and awareness.
Eat Healthy
As I aforementioned above, one of the most common causes of brain fog is none other than a lack of proper nutritional nourishment. In today’s age, it is both a blessing and a curse that we can buy processed and pre-packaged meals, or drive to the nearest fast food restaurant and get a burger and fries without batting an eye. However, if you indulge in processed foods often, you not only increase your risk of succumbing to a plethora of other conditions, but you also subject yourself to being a victim to brain fog.
As a solution, go to the local market and stock up on vegetables, fruits, healthy grains, nuts, and protein, and starting having fun in the kitchen. Through changing your diet and taking on new eating habits that include loads of antioxidants and vitamins, you will give your body more of what it thrives on, and will ultimately increase your mental clarity and vitality.
Get Ample Rest
Lack of sleep is another common cause of brain fog that is in many ways a no-brainer. We have all experienced a morning or two after tossing and turning all night where we have trouble acclimating and getting our day started, and even once we get it started, it feels like we are move throughout our day in the clutches of disorientation.
The moral of the story is: don’t just give your body the rest it needs, but enjoy it!
Exercise
In this modern technological era, we have boundless entertainment at our fingertips. If we want food — we deliver. If we want a movie — we can buy it from the comforts of our couch and watch it instantly. With many of us living sedentary lifestyles, we fail to realize that our lack of exercise and physical activity actually has a huge effect on our mental capacity for concentration and focus.
It goes without saying that everything is inherently connected. Our bodies, minds, and spirits all share symbiotic relationships with each other, and the ripples from one facet can be felt in another without question. So, if you work from home, stand behind a bar, or sit behind a desk for most of the day, take some time to go for a walk, invite your friend to go for a jog, get a gym membership, or invest in some weights so that you can get your blood oxygenated and clear the stagnation in your head. Plus, you get to look good in the process!
Meditation
Most people have a very stereotypical idea of meditation — lotus position, index finger and thumb touching, and guttural ohms that are repeated until nirvana is reached — however, meditation can be as simple as taking time for yourself and finding stillness.
Many don’t realize that meditation has wonderfully positive effects on your mental clarity, emotional awareness, mood consistency, and even physical health, and are frightened of it because they “don’t know how to do it” or “don’t want to feel silly.” Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about it, there are plenty of apps and videos online that can guide you and assist you in learning the art of meditation. Simply do a little research, make a little time, and enjoy the process of actively clearing your mind with meditation!
Supplements
Society today is full of trends to get your body into optimal shape, and one of these trends is supplements.
Supplements essentially provide our bodies with vitamins that may otherwise be difficult to get from our diet on a regular basis, and can improve our mood, our concentration, and our energy levels.
If you are curious about supplements and which ones will work for you, consult a doctor, a personal trainer, or even do some research online and determine which supplements will assist you in clearing your brain fog.
In the end, these are only five of the many different methods there are to assist you in clearing your brain fog and regaining your mental clarity in your daily life. Essentially what it comes down to, is simply: take care of your body. The more that you take care of your physical body, the more you will find that your psyche and your spirit are taken care of as well. Throw out the brain fog, and enjoy a life full of clear vision, intense motivation, and creative inspiration!
